2. Uber spam emails: Australia hits company with AUS$412,500 fine
Uber Australia has been fined AUD 412,500 ($260,000) by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) for violating anti-spam laws. The company sent over two million unsolicited emails in January, including 500,000 to recipients who had opted out of marketing emails. The ACMA found that Uber had breached the Spam Act 2003, which requires companies to obtain consent from customers before sending them marketing emails. Uber has paid the fine, which is the largest ever imposed by the ACMA for spamming.
3. Reliance Jio partners with Plume to deliver AI-enhanced in-home services
Reliance Jio, an Indian telecommunications company, has partnered with Plume, a Palo Alto-based company, to offer AI-enhanced in-home services to its 200 million subscribers across India. 4. 12 people died in accident in Karnataka's Chikkaballapur, 1 injured
A road accident on National Highway 44 in Karnataka's Chikkaballapur has claimed the lives of at least 12 people. The accident occurred when a car collided with a stationary truck on the Bangalore-Hyderabad NH44. The victims were travelling from Bagepalli to Chikkaballapur when the accident took place. The exact cause of the accident remains under investigation, but initial probe suggests that the incident was caused because of low visibility due to fog. One person was critically injured and is undergoing treatment in a nearby hospital.
5. Govt appoints BCG to ready vision 2047 blueprint
The Indian government has appointed Boston Consulting Group (BCG) to help prepare the Vision 2047 document that will set India’s medium-term goals and priorities for becoming a developed economy in the next quarter of a century. The vision document is expected to outline an economic strategy towards becoming a middle-income nation by leveraging India’s strengths in industry, services, agriculture, trade, and human capital while improving the governance systems and access to public goods. The document is expected to be unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
6. Kerala government to set up ₹200 crore graphene production facility
The Kerala government has approved the establishment of a pilot production facility for graphene, a wonder material known for its extraordinary electrical and electronic properties. The facility will be set up on a public-private partnership model at an expense of ₹237 crore, with the production facility costing ₹200 crores. The project aims to foster innovation and development while optimizing resource allocation. The Kerala Digital University will provide technical support for the project, and KINFRA will be the special-purpose vehicle. The project is expected to boost the state's economy and create job opportunities.
7. Modi to launch projects worth ₹7,500 cr in Maharashtra, national games in Goa
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate several development projects worth around INR7,500 crore (approximately USD 1 billion) in Maharashtra on October 26, 2023, before kicking off the National Games in Goa. The projects include the left bank canal network of the Nilwande Dam, which is about 85 kilometers in length and set to benefit 182 villages. Modi will also launch the "Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi Yojana," which will benefit more than 86 lakh beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana in Maharashtra by providing an additional amount of INR 6,000 per year to them. More than 10,000 athletes from across the country will compete in over 43 sports disciplines at the National Games in Goa.

8. Hotel industry's double-digit growth to continue this fiscal, says ICRA
According to a report by rating agency ICRA, the hotel industry in India is expected to report double-digit revenue growth in FY2024, supported by the sustenance of domestic leisure and business travel and an increase in foreign tourist arrivals. The industry has also benefitted from the G20 summit and ongoing ICC World Cup 2023. ICRA estimates pan-India premium hotel occupancy at around 70-72% in FY24, after recovering to 68-70% in FY23. Pan-India premium hotel average room rates (ARRs) are expected to be at around Rs 6,000-6,200 in FY2024.

9. Cabinet approves inclusion of Jamrani Dam under Krishi Sinchayee scheme
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved the inclusion of the Jamrani Dam Multipurpose Project of Uttarakhand under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana-Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (PMKSY-AIBP) of the Department of Water Resources, River Development, and Ganga Rejuvenation. The dam would feed the existing Gola barrage, through its 40.5 km length of canal system and 244 km long canal system, which was completed in 1981. The project envisages additional irrigation of 57,065 (9,458 in Uttarakhand and 47,607 ha in Uttar Pradesh) in Nainital & Udham Singh Nagar districts of Uttarakhand, and Rampur & Bareilly districts in Uttar Pradesh.
10. ADB approves $400 million loan for urban services in India
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a $400 million policy-based loan to India for Subprogram 2 of the Sustainable Urban Development and Service Delivery Program. The loan aims to support India's urban reform agenda by improving infrastructure quality, providing assured public services, and efficient governance systems. The initiative is aligned with the Indian government's urban reform agenda, aiming to elevate the standard of living in urban areas by promoting modernization of building bylaws, land pooling, urban agglomeration, and comprehensive urban mobility planning through transit-oriented development.
